Why Work at Rutgers?

There are many reasons why Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, has become an employer of choice for individuals seeking employment in higher education. Among them are:

Comprehensive Benefits

Beyond competitive salaries, Rutgers University provides generous benefits packages to its employees. Eligible employees participate in the New Jersey State Health Benefits Plan (SHBP) and State-administered retirement systems. Under these State-administered benefits, eligible employees may opt in to medical, dental and prescription drug coverage for themselves and their families, as well as retirement benefits and post-retirement health care for qualifying employees.

In addition to State benefits, employees may also be eligible for certain non-State benefits as dictated by the negotiating agreements, University policies and terms and conditions that govern their employment at the university. Many of these benefits are exclusive to Rutgers employees. Such non-State benefits (subject to eligibility) may include:

  • Tuition benefits for themselves and / or their dependent children;
  • Recreation Center privileges at the university’s world-class recreation centers;
  • Paid time off, including vacation, sick and personal time;
  • Employee discounts, including access to discounts from thousands of participating local and national vendors through the Abenity program (sign-in required), and discounts to on-campus goods and services, including book store and technology purchases and discounted tickets to athletic events, concert and theater tickets, and museum and art gallery admission.
  • Library privileges at one of the best academic research library systems in the country;
  • Child Care and Development Center discounts;
  • Tax Savings and voluntary supplemental retirement savings plans.
